FARMERS AND LABOUR
AIR SEMPLE ON MR FIELD. Mr AY. 11. Field’s remarks at a farmers ’ meeting at Palmerston on Saturday received some . attention from Mi Robert Semple, M.P, at his meeting in Levin on Tuesday evening.
Reading from a report, Mr -Semple stated that Mr Field had said that the Labour Baity might get into power in this country, and that if they did the only thing left for the farmers to do would be to get tlieir' guns and slioot. •'•'lf I said that to-night,’ J continued Mr Scruple, ‘‘l would find myself in the •' lighthouse ’ to-morrow morning. (Laughter.) But make no mistake, I would be in my place. If I used that kind of language I ought to be in gaol.” He said the Labour Dartv did not demand that any political group should bo obliterated. All it asked for was reasonable discussion and consideration of its proposals and to bo shown where they were wrong. Levin “Chronicle.”
