BUTTER TAT CHAMPIONS. The, 17th National Dairy Show in connection with the Manawatu A. and P. Association opened yesterday in dull tout fine weather. •: There was only a small attendance of the general public. The exhibits, however, were good, and elicited keen competition.

The National Dairy Show at Palmerston this week is responsible for large entries of both cheese and butter, and consequently farmers are greatly interested in the exhibits. The entries this year in butter total 141 'as against--111 last. year, while for cheese the entries are "increased by 35.' Butter. la competition for. a box of butter in pats, suitable'for local trade, Lcvm topped the list, with 95i points—46* for flavour, 24 for texture, 20 for salt. Tai Tapu was half-a-point behind, while Shannon was fourth with 911 points. The class, butter for export, was keenly contested, three companies— Masterton, Rata, and Canterbury Cen-tral—-tying for first honours with Do points."
