CORRESPONDENCE.

ENGINEER'S FEES.

To the Editor. Sir,—ln your report of the last meeting of the Otaki Town Board, iu discussing the matter of plans and specifications for an electric light and power scheme for Otaki, one commissioner is reported to have said that “under the agreement Mr Reardon was entitled to no remuneration.” There can be onlytwo answers to that stateiueut—either he has been misreported or else he has not read clause 9 of my contract with the Town Board. This clause clearly pro\ ides for payment in u very definite manner. However, I trust, that he lias been not correctly reported, but in any case I think it. is my duty to place the facts before your readers at the earliest date.—Yours, etc., DAVID J. REARDON, Electrical Engineer. Wanganui, June IS, 19.19. [Our report was perfectly correct.— Ed. “Mail.”] LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB. To tho Editor. Sir? —With your kind permission I wish to support the remarks of the Rev. G. F. Petrie re the necessity of providing some amusement for our young men during the evenings, arid more especially during the winter months. 1 myself take and have taken a great interest in this matter, and I personally thank the rev. gentleman for bringing this matter before the Club. Now my wonder starts when the ; report says that the essay led (o con--1 siderablc discussion. Surely any mars or woman having regard to our young people should not hesitate for one moment in providing that entertainment that, youth demands. I would like to say here that iu these small townships meetings are frequent, but I have as a rule found them end iu smoke, as this moating did. Talking is cheap, but worthy actions are noble, and [ am out io support tho Rev. Mr i Petrie, or any other man, in any effort) "‘hicli has for its object the uplifting of our young people. Trusting that something will be done, on the rev. gentleman’s lines, and that others will rally to his standard.—Yours, JOHN R. INGRAM. Otaki, Juno 13, 1919.
