Mr C. E. Cunipsly, who has been on the staff of the Otaki State school for the past four years or so, severes his connection with the school at the end of the present month.
The death occurred at Levin yesterday of Major Liddle, an old Crimean veteran, aged S 5 years. Deceased, who was well known in this district, had lived for the past ten years in Levin.
Among the soldiers returning by the Prinzcsxtii; due to arrive in Wellington on tho 25th inst., are Temp. Captain Walter (!. Taylor (M.M.), of Otaki, and Private G. I£. Miekell, of To Horo.
Mrs Byron Brown, who has been spending a holiday at Otaki’s popular seaside resort, returned to Wellington ibis morning. Miss Rollings, who has also spent a pleasant holiday there, returned to town last week.
A wedding was solemnised by the registrar (Mr J. W. Hodgson).at Otaki this morning, when James Newton, of Otaki Railway, and Miss Esther Mavis McGee, of Otaki Railway, were married.
Mr and Mrs C. P. Bowles, of Wesley Road, old and well-known residents of Wellington, celebrate their golden wedding on the Pith June (to-day). Mr and Mrs Powles were married at the residence of Major Marshall, Tutu Totare, Kangitikei. as there was no church in the district at that time.
