ME DAVID lIUGHTE. Another the fast-thinning ranks of the old pioneers passed away at Waikanae early yesterday morning, in the person of Air David Hugliie, inliis ttist year. Deceased, who was father of Mrs H. Port, of Waikanae. with whom he had liver for a number of years past, bad resided in New Zealand for over 70 years, and in the early days shared the hardships and vicissitudes of life that, the*pioneers had 1o contend with, and played no mean part himself in helping to make New Zealand what she is tonay. Mr Hug hie was a fine stamp of the sturdy pioneers who did so much for the early settlement of New Zealand. He was a man of splendid physique, and scarcely knew a day’s illness until quite rec«itHy. He passed away after a comparalively short illness. He was a man rf upright character, genial arid kindly cd disposition, and 'was greatly beloved by all who had the pleasure of hi' acquaintance. His wife died about a quarter of a century ago, and 3lr-t Fort i.« the only member of his family bving. The funeral takes place at Waikanae to-morrow.
