It is currently reported in Ellliam .that the Mayor (Mr C. V. Taylor) will contest the Egmout scut at the general elections.

On Tuesday next Mr Elsdon Clark, sou oi' Mr IV. M. Clark, of Levin, leaves for trail Francisco with the object of acquiring special training in the soft goods business.

The Misses Torapsitt, who have been on a six-weeks’ holiday in Eaetihi, returned to their home at Otaki on Monday evening, delighted with their sojourn.

Mr Philip Gibbs, tiic noted war corrcspondcnt, who is at present on a lecturing tour in the United States, is likely to visit Australia and Mow Zealand before the end of the year.

Mr Clem. Eden,, for some time a member of the Otaki Post Office staff, has been on a brief visit to Otaki. He left for Mew Plymouth yesterday, but will return to Otaki later prior to returning to his, home at Nelson.

The death occurred on Monday of Mrs Eagle, wife of Mr W. Eagle, of Eketahana, and formerly of Masterton. Deceased was -10 years of age, and leaves a husband and four sons. Deceased was for a time an inmate of the Otaki Sanatorium.

Mr A. R. Rudkin, formerly of the Otaki State school .staff, has again taken up duties here, filling the position of headmaster during the iHne*a of Mr IV. Barns Smith. Mr Rudkin, who recently re turned after undergoing treatment at Rotorua, is now asuefc improved in health.

Mr .Tame* Gillerlene, of Otaki, who was recently admitted to the Otaki Hospital, is in a serious condiiien, he being injured about the head as well as internally. How he was injured yet remains a mystery, but it is thought by some that he was attacked by ruffians-.
