TOWN BOARD AND LIGHTING.
To the Editor. Sir,—‘ ‘Stir 'Em Up,” the/writer of the letter in your last issue, waxes sarcastic over a' proposed deputation to the Town Board to demand that they light up the streets. What does he mean'by “every tin-pot organisation!’' Is ho one of those who wants the excuse of-darkness to stay away from church en Sunday nights or to savo the price of admission to pictures aßd other entertainments? Is ho a member of the Town Board? If so, which category does ho come under —one of those who sit tight and do nothing? I quite agree with the “croaker” that advantage should be taken of the present vacancy on the Town Board and a candidate should be elected pledged to support street lighting. The present Town Board has had a very quiet time. They occasionally amuse themselves by talking about electric light. Evidently the only deputations it has been troubled with has been from the Fire Brigade —which body can only report “it received a very sympathetic hearing.” If it cost a large sum. annually in the past for lighting, the Board has a large sum saved owing to having no expenditure under that head for the past four years, so there ca® be no excuse as to finance. In any case when tar and sanding operations commence it will be absolutely necessary to have the locality well lighted.—l am, etc., . " “KEEP AT "EM.”
