The resignation of Miss Maekay, of tho To lluro State school staff, is announced.
Mrs W. Eagle, of Eketahuna, who for some time was in Otaki for health rcasoiis, is now in a critical state of health. v
Mr M. Boyd, one of Rikiorangi’s best known settlers, is at present confined to-his bed, after an operation for appendicitis. Mr W. D. Wallace, of the staff of the Levin branch of the Bank of Now Zealand, has been transferred to Matamata, in the Auckland district. Mrs Powell and family, who have been residents of Otaki and district for the past 24 years, will this week leave to take up residence in Wellington. Mr G. McMorran, headmaster of the Terrace School, has resigned, after an association of thirty-five years with the scheol, where ho entered on his duties so long ago as May, 3884.
The death has occurred at Wellington of Mr Alfred Lindsay, father of Mr C. Lindsay, at one tiino bootmaker in Hanakau. Deceased was SO years of age.
Mr Fred Dorset, who recently returned to Otaki from active service, has accepted a position at Feathcrston, but will not take up duties there untii after he has had his regular soldier’s holiday.
Miss Eva Marion Death, of Chau, and Mr Howard Spencer Kemp, of Arapaepae Road, Levin, were married at Levin on Wednesday last, the. Rev. Blackburue officiating. Misses Grace and Rita Death were bridesmaids, while Air D. Death was best man.
Mr Wilfred Cook, who has been connected with the firm, of Mcsura Bills and Moore, of Otaki, for some years, during which time he has proved a courteous, obliging and popular servant, has accepted the position of assistant at the To Horo Supply Stores, rendered vacant by tho retirement of Air S. B. McDonald.
11 r Howard Andrew, of Manakau, has been Indisposed of late, and, acting under medical advice, has been reluctantly compelled I-o relinquish all public, duties, and to “go slow" for a time. Hr Andrew will go for an extensive holiday shortly, and his many friends throughout the district will sincerely trust that ho rosy return folly restored to health.
"'Mr E t G. Skilling, who hits been relieving at Otaki Tailway for the last six months, leaves for Wellington tomorrow. Mr Skilling is a returned soldier, who has seen much service. He was a Main Body man, was wounded and invalided home, but re-enlisted and returned to Egypt. When wounded a second time ho had over three and ahalf years’ service. He also took part in tho South African war, being only 18 years of age when he left New Zealand. Mr Skilling’s friends, while regretting his departure, will he pleased to hear that his transfer means promotion.
Dr. Diamond Jenness, son of Mr G. .Tenners, of Lower Halt, is about to return home for a brief stay before resuming work with the Canadian Government. Dr. Jenness, though quite a young man, has had a remarkable career. From an English University he j wc-nt to study anthropology among the ' wildest tribes of the Pacific Islands, | then he went to the Arctic with Stei fans?on to study the Eskimo*, and it is interesting to note that he had been two years with that people before he knew that the rest of the world p-as in a state of war. On returning to civilisation he enlisted in the Canadian Army as a private, and is now under engagement to the Canadian Government to write the resale of his experience*. He is *n ‘’old boy” of Wellington College.
