RECOGNITION OF SERVICES
PRESENTATION TO MR AND MRS REYNOLDS. A pleasant little function took place at- the conclusion of the annual meeting of the Horowhcnua Horticultural and Industrial Society on Wednesday night, advantage being taken of the opportunity of bidding good-bye to Mr and Mrs Xt. H. Reynolds, who are shortly to depart for the Old Country. The President (Mr Frank Penn) said the society was about to lose two of its most valuable workers. Ever since their arrival in Otaki. Mr and Mrs Reynolds had shown great enthusiasm in the local horticultural Socict)', and also in the Otaki Bulb Society. They had not only been big and successful exhibitors" but had also been indefatigable workers in the interests of the two societies. They had also proved good citizens, being energetic workers in .various patriotic efforts, while,Mr Reynolds was a member of the Town Board and' Fire Brigade. Mr Penn assured Mr and Mrs Reynolds tkcywould carry away with them the best wishes of every member of the two societies, and wished" them boil voyage and a speedy return to,New Zealand. Mr H. Witchell, on behalf of the Otaki Bulb Society endorsed Mr Penn's remarks, and said he felt sure their guests would return to New-Zealand before long, when-they would be assured of a hearty welcome back again. Mr Witcb.cll. emphasised the splendid work done by Mr and Mrs Reynolds in the interests of horticulture generally. Mr H. Small also added a tribute of praise of the good work - done by Mr and Mrs Reynolds. :- ;"■
The ' chairman then presented Mr Reynolds, on behalf of the members of the" tivo horticultural societies/with a useful and' valuable travelling bag. and Mis Reynolds with a "nice suit cm both of solid leather. . M Reynolds, who was completely taken by surprise, said his love for horticulture compelled him to assist any organisation having for its object the. ad- - vaneement of that hobby. He said he and Mrs Reynolds had been happy in QtaTd, and could honestly say they had never met better or kinder people that in Otaki. It was quite probable that, he would-return to Otaki at no-very distant date. He heartily thanked them for their kind words and handsome presents, and wished the societies good luck and prosperity in. every venture in which they might embark. Mrs Reynolds also feelingly returned • thanks,. * Tile gathering closed with the singing of" For they arc Jolly Good Fellows," and hearty -cheers for Mr and Mrs Reynolds.
