AN IMPORTANT MATTER.

A FOOLISH PRACTICE FOP. FASHION'S SAKE.

The matter cf the dress of somc young children was brought under, the notice of the Society for the Protection of "Women and Children. A lotter pointed out the cruelty of exposing the little limbs of smaljgirls and boys in the scanty garments which some mother? consider adequate in the wintry weather. The matter was discussed by the committee, which was in hearty agreement with the writer. The following resolution was unanimously passed: "That*this society-.desires to call the attention of parents and guardians to the present fashion whereby a great part of the lower limbs of young children (both boys and girls) is cruelly and foolishly exposed to- the severity of the weather and sudden changes of temperature, to the great risk of their health and constitutions." It is to be hoped that ihis-protest will reach the hearts of those mothers who. probably from thoughtlessness or want of knowledge of the dangers incurred, follow the fashion plates to? blindly. One of tl e most depressing sights possible is that of little legs mottled blue and crimson with cold, and the small face expressing the discomfort felt. The aftermath of colds and delicacy in the future is.really appalling, and the innoeeut victims of motherly vatiiiy may suffer long and severely as a consequence.
