MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the abovi was held at Wellington yesterday. Pre sent: Crs. F. G. Cooper, (chairman), W Galloway, W. J. Howell, M. W. Welch J. Whiteuntn, P. Cavanagh. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: From Palmerston Ncirth Chamber of Commerce, suggesting the Government J take over the control of the main arj toiial roads.—Received. From Erie Riddiford, drawing, attention to the bad state of the Orongorongo road, Waiuui. —Left to the in- ' spec tor to have the work done as soon ' as possible. ; From A. Atkinson, asking permission to put in a concrete culvert at York Bay.—Granted. . ~ From' F. J. Field, asking for road access to his property at Lowry Bay.— Granted. , Froin Messrs Abbott Bros. (Horokiwi), complaining ofvnoxious weeds being thrown on their property by Council's employees.—Left to inspec-

tor to inquire into and report on. at next, meeting. From James Foster, re the erection of an ante-room at they corner of Ames street and Beach road ('Paekakariki), and objecting thereto. —Cr. Howell considered the place was a convenience, for the 'public but Cr. Galloway said he thought the public Health Department would'object to it.—Decided to get a report from the Health Department. Prom A. E. O. Pcttingell, asking for the removal of sand at her section (PHmmertoii).—Referred to the inspector. From Runmati Estate Syndicate re uncompleted portion of Mutai road, and asking it be finished. —To be done as soon as labour was available. Inspector's *

The inspector (Mr Cml'ny) reported that he had inspected the Lowry Bay road and found the width- of the unused portion varying from 28 to "tilt, ; but he saw no inconvenience caused to car owners. Improvement had been effected to the Hutt road, and with j other minor matters attended to would '■ serve the purpose for years. Stokes' bridge needed re-decking, but the con- ' dition of the structure did not warrant the outlay. He recommended that the bridge be erected in I'crro-concrete. The Plimraerton-Pahautanui road had j been repaired and was in good order. ' Relative to proposed roads at Plimmerton extension, he estimated the cost at. £05.0. The AVcstcrn Hutt road had been metalled, and other matters attended to in the locality. Timber had been secured for repairs to the two suspension bridges on Akatarawa track, this work having ariseu owing to werk be- j ing clone on the Hutt-Waikanac road. Timber had-been ordered for various bridges, while roads at Otaihango had been attended to, but cattle, played j havec with the sand banks. The ordin- j ary maintenance of all roads had been attended to, and, generally speaking. I the roads were in very fair order. It .was agreed that a new bridge in . Stokes' Valley was necessary, while the . estimated cost of roads at i'linimerton extension was considered on the lowside. It was decided tltat the necessary ; steps be taken to re-build the bridge, ' the arrangements to be left in the , hands.of the Chairman and Cr. Welch, j The report was adopted. Other Reports. j

'. Ihc sub-inspector reported that settles in some localities were taking metal off the road without permission, and he suggested charging sixpence per load.—Decided to make further inquiries into the matter, and to fesce a portion of Watiacevillc Hill road to prevent persons taking metal. The retsort was adopted.

The ranger reported that during the mourti he had impounded sixteen head of stock.

" The motor lorry driver reported carting 23S yards of metal during the month.

Messrs Cromb. Wilton, and Reid wrote re road from the -late Mr Drewitt's property to the Mangakotukutuku stream and the Paraparaunm game farm. The road was unfenced and needed attention, the water tables needed deepening and cleaning, while the groynes were in an unsatisfaetafy condition and needed immediate attention, the road to Cromb's needed widening and otherwise attending to.

Cr. Howell thought the gate should be removed and stock impounded, while he favoured the Council contributing to the erection of a fence. —Decided to remove the gate and impound stock after due notice had; been given, d-, Howell also undertook to wait on MrLynch and further discuss the matter. Cr, Galloway asked what had bees done with the crusher plant, and received a reply from the chairman that it had been dissembled, and that the delay in overhauling it was because it was'kept back to put the road in order before the races, s ■"° Means of Travelling. Cr. notice of motion that the Council purchase, a motor car ror the yhairmas, councillors and inspector, was considered. Cr. Cavanagh said the matter was an important one, and that the motor bicycle' was only fit for a schooftoy, and liable to -break Mr Cudby's neck, he being well up ifl ye'&M. Cr.
