FINAL PATRIOTIC APPEAL. What the Tc lloro branch of the Horowhenua County Patriotic Association termed its “final appeal” lor funds was held at the Tc lloro Public Hall on Friday last. Despite the multiplicity of local functions, and other disturbing elements, there was a capital attendance, and the function was a successful one. At the outset, Air Eli Allen, who presided,’ said it was probable that this would be To lloro’s final cflort tor funds for the soldiers, and consequently he hoped the people would support them well. They should not give grudgingly to the soldiers who had given so much so readily. Air Alloa referred to the great sacrifices made by oltr soldiers, and said all should bo proud of what they had done tor us. A brief but enjoyable musical programme was then gone through. Mrs H. O. Jones contributed a pianoforte solo, songs were rendered by Airs Morgan, of Wellington (2), Albs Addio Fielding, and Air Frank l’enu, while little Miss Phyllis -Tones gave a solo on the “kazoo.” All of the items were encored. A goodly collection of miscellaneous articles, comprising fruit, vegetables, meat, dressed dolls, etc., was then submitted for sale. Air C. 3. .Spiers made an excellent salesman, and fairly good prices were realised. Afterwards supper was .served, and the floor was then cleared and dancing indulged in for a short time. The proceeds of the sale totalled between £l2 and £l-1, donation £l, door receipts £1 10s 3d, proceed- competition.) £2 os. fid. Other amounts would probably bring the takings up to over £2O.
