MANAKAU NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
Mr J. Staples, Mr John Staples, and Mr F. Stupples, of Manakau, have loft for Nelson district for a short stay. The Anglican. Sunday school picnic was held at Mrs Drake's, Waikawa, on Saturday la.st. There was a good attendance of both children and adults.. all of whom had a pleasant afternoon. Sports were indulged in, while rowing on the Waikawa stream made a most pleasant diversion. Luncheon and tea wcro provided, and generally the arrangements were first-class. As usual on these occasions, Mrs Drake and family did all they could to ensure the enjoyment of all present. , keen sports—and there arc a fair number in Manakau—are looking forward to the opening of the shooting Season on May Ist (to-morrow), and good bags are anticipated by some, who are already counting their spoils. Verily "hope spring* eternal in the human breast," for mcthinks I have seen some *f these ardent sportsmen returning home, in the past, with empty bags, declaring that sport was done in this district, and that they were "full up of it."
Private Geo. D'Ath has been sent to Trcnthani Hospital. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery. His was a eot case—a rather serious wound in the groin. Mr Alf. Atkins has disposed of the leo.se of his farm at Manakau to Mr Aplin, of Bulls, who will take possession about July Ist.
