FREEZING WORKS FIRE.
; BETWEEN £12,000 AND £20,000 DAMAGE DONE. ' Christchurch, April -29. To-night a fire was-discovered in the wool department at; the Eiistgatc. Refrigerating Company's Islington Freezing Works. The Christchurch Fire Brigade went out. and assisted-the brigade'connected with the works to fight the Are.'which took -an hour and a half to subdue. A large portion of fhcfollmongefy was- gutted, but, fortunately, tliis department is detached from the rest of the work's. " The full extent of the damage cannot bo ascertained tonight.. The wool-drying"machines were destroyed, and some two hundred bales of~wqol were severely damaged. The estimated damage to the buildin:;, wool, and plant will run from £12,000 to £20,000. The company will be able to make arrangements to ob» viatc cessation of operations.
