PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
ADVICE TO BE IN READINESS. L_ The Otaki'Town Board has received the following telegram from Hon. the Minister for Internal Affairs:— "With reference to my circular tetter of loth March regarding peace ccle- ; brations, tho Government has decided that such celebrations will be held on the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday after the signing of-the preliminary peace treaty. As such treaty may be signed any day now, this advice is sent you in order, that you have all your preparations iii hand." ..
SUGGESTED INTERVAL TO COMPLETE ARRANGEMENTS.
A deputation of Wellington City Councillors and representatives of the Peace Celebration Committee waited on the Acting-Premier at Wellington, •and suggested that an iaiovval be at lowed to lapse between the signing of the peace treaty and the peace celebrations. It was pointed out that it would take some little time to complete arrangements, if the celebrations were to be carried out worthily.
After discussion, it was resolved to communicate with the local bodies in the chief centres, with a view to granting tho request of the deputation, it being suggested that a week or ten days elapse after the signing of the treaty before the. celebrations. Should tho local bodies be favourable, in all probability the Cabinet will act as requested. In any case, the celebrations will take place simultaneously throughout the Dominion. ;' SILVER MISSION BAND. TO ASSIST AT OTAKI. The Otaki Peace Celebration Committee has been most fortunate in securing tho services of the Wellington Central Mission Silver' Band for the local peace celebrations. The band will journey to Otaki on ,thc Saturday evening, stny over Sunday and Monday, assisting in the Sunday thanksgiving service, the procession and monster picnic on Monday, and returning to tho city on Monday night. The band is.recognised as one of the best in Wellington, and consists of from 35 to 40 performers. The band has most generously offered to give its-services gratuitously, though, of course, Otaki must pay travelling and accommodation expenses. Wo are most fortunate in having secured such a tip-top band, which should ensure the success of the celebrations.
