AN APT QUOTATION.

At .the close„of Father Cronin's- address at OtakP on Sunday night last, Air Byron Brown (chairman) recited a few lines of Wbittier's, written in connection with, the abolition of slavery, that were particularly apropos, and were heartily applauded. The lines were as under: — . '■Why hesitate? Ye are- full-bearded men . With God-implanted will and courage, If ye dave but show it. And ne'er was will But found some way or means to work it out; And ne'er did Fortune frown on him who dared. Shall wo, in presence of this grievous wrong, In this supremest moment of all time, Stand cowering, trembling, ■When with one bold stroke these groan- - ing millions Alight be for over free? And that one stroke So greatly good, so level with the happiness of man, That all the angels would applaud the deed. —J. a. Whittier.
