* ' COMMITTEE / MEETING-. - ■ A'meeting of the committee of the Horowhenua Horticultural and Industrial Society was held at the reading-" room on Monday night last, when there wore" present:-Mr H. Witchell .(in.the. chair),- Mrs Huthwnite, Messrs H. Small, A. W. Broadway, W. Summers, /W..H. Reynolds) S., Norgrovo, and. Bey. Pctrie. -Apologies for non-attendance, were received from Messrs Pcnn, Cockrell,. Kilmister and Major Addington.,. . ...-."' : . - - ■
: The secretary read a statement of accounts <n connection with the .late show, showing a deficiency of £2l 8s Id. However, there remained uncollected a sum .of about £l4, special prize money promised, together with a small sum. for members' tickets; When these amounts are collected there will bo only u small debit balance.
Ta'e' statement showed that the following, details of receipts and expenditure in connection with the late show:—Receipts: Door takings, £l4 6s l)d; sheep guessing,'£4 ss; lamp guessing. £1 lis; tearooms, £2 12s Sd; sweets stall £" 13s S 3; sale of. produce, £7 10s (id; entry fees, £S 13s; sale sheep, £1 ss: members' tickets, £1 10s; special prize money paid, £l4 ss; donations, £1; hire tables, £1 2s (3d. Expenditure: Timber, £6 13s; telephone, £3 10s; stamps and telegrams, £2; luncheons, £2; judges' expenses, £2 17s (id; prize money, £34 15s 3d; secretary's salarv, £10; advertising and printing. £l9 39s 3d; carting, etc., fills 2d; rent hall, £1 10s; H. Cockrell, £1 Is 9d. ■ In view of the heavy loss sustained by the Society through the Spring Show being abandoned at the* last minute, owinsT'to the epidemic, the position was considered satisfactory by the
members. It was resolved that the secretary write conveving the. Society's hearty thanks to the ladies and gentlemen who had so kindly acted as judges- at ■■ (ho late show, also to'Mr Robert Bevan, who had generously'donated-a sheep for the guessing competition. A special vote of thanks was accorded to Mr F. Westbury, of Hutt, who staged such a splendid exhibit at his own expense, donating the exhibit to the- Society, and also acting as judgo fre'e of expense. - r Thanks.-wore,-also, accorded.... Mr 1.
