Mr Connor, from the telegraph learners' gallery, Palmerston North, has taken up duty in the Otaki post. office. . Mr H. Parsonson, of Pahiatua, has been appointed manager of Mr Howard Andrew's Ohau branch store, Mr Andrew having purchased Mr Sheargold 's store in that town. , Mr and Mrs Malcolm Maclean, of Paraparaurau, left Wellington on Friday night by the Makura, for the Old Country, where they will enjoy a wellearned holiday. They expert to be absent from New Zealand for at least six mouths. Their many friends will wish them bon voyage. During his visit to Otaki, Roy. Father Cronin, tho Prohibition lecturer, was the guest of Mrs Fisher, Rangiuru. Mr and Mrs Todd, of Duuedin, who are accompanying Father Cronin on his tour, stayed at tho seaside resort whilo at Otaki.
Captain E. O. Mousley, E.F.A., of Auckland (at one time on tho staff of • the Otaki State school), who graduated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in 191-1, has now secured his M.A. degree. He was taken prisoner with General j Townshend's force at Kufc and returni cd to England as an envoy of the Tur- , kish Government. ! Lieutenant-Colonel Powles, D. 5.0., I C.M.G., late of Otaki, is returning to ! New Zealand in command of a draft of ■ returning soldiers in the s.s. Ajana. He ' left New Zealand with tho Main Body , in October, 191-1, and after sesrvice on '.Gallipoli was in command of tho last party- of S 3 men to leave Anzac Bay j on the evacuation of the peninsula. He, ' also saw service in Palestine and on I the western front. Besides tho decoI rations which were awarded to him, he ' was mentioned four times iu despatches | by General Sir lan Hamilton, and by j Generals Sir Alex. Murray and Sir | Charles Allenby. -
