PERSONAL.
Mr H. Hepwortli, chemist, of Palmerston North, is at present on a visit to Otaki, and. is staying at the kiosk. Miss Miller, late of tho staff of the Otaki Stato school, expects to ieavo Wellington to-day en routo for England. A visit from Dr. Paterson is expected at the Otaki State school to-day, when a general medical inspection wilt bo made, • Word was received by Mr H. Freeman to-day stating that his son, Gordon, was seriously ill in a hospital in England.
Sergeant Roy Satherley cabled this week to say he expected to be leaving for home at an early date. He was well and having a good time. Mrs Liddieoat, of Otaki, who was recently operated on for appendicitis at the Palmerston North public hospital, 1 i is now, we are pleased to say, making excellent progress towards recovery. It is understood that Mrs Powell, of Beach Road, who has been a resident of Otaki for a great many years, has decided to take up her residence in Wellington. Her property here will be taken x over by-Mr R. W, Hill, a returned soldier,-.brother to Mrs A. .W. Broadway, of this town. Mr Harry Bands, M.A.. arrived by the Moeraki from Sydney on Friday and went south to fake hi 3 former position as science master at Waitaki College. Mr Bands has been over two yc-ars in England doing munition work. He is a brother of the late Rev. F. Rands, chaplain to the Forces, who succumbed to influenza on tie Bhine recently. The matron of the Palmerston North Public Hospital, Miss McLaggan, has just completed twenty years’ continuous service in that institution. At yesterday’s meeting of the Hospital Board ' a hearty vote of-congratulation to Miss McLaggan was proposed' by Mr J. A. j' Nash, M.P., and carried by acclamation. ! 1
