Ilis counsels were always on sound lines, and Ms retirement from the Council was much regretted by Kis fellow-members. The late Mr Prouso was colonial born, spent much of his life in this district, and had helped to build Levin. For many years ho had been connected with the firm of Prouso Bros., snwmillers, and afterwards looked upon as one of our most energetic farmers. His death was also a sad blow to the dairy industry, in which he had his whole heart and soul, and no doubt the butter-fat people had much to thank Mm for.

Cr, Law endorsed the chairman's remarks, and mentioned the fact that he had been connected in many ways with tho late Mr Prouso, and he had always 'found him a straight and hard fighter for the dairy industry. " Cr. Harkncsssaid, as' the representative of a dairying community, he had had a deal to do with the late Mr Prouse, and the more he knew of him the' more convinced' was ho that Mr Prouso was a good man. He worked for tho common, good of all, and was loved and esteemed. Or. Broadbelt said ho had known the deceased for many years, and had always found him upright, generous, and kind-hearted. Cr.McLeavey referred'to Mr Prouse as ono of the most useful members the Council possessed, and he was sorry to lose his services, and at the same time felt, genuinely, sorry for his relatives. The motion was carried, all silently standing-
