PARAPARAUMU.
The following is an appeal being ein j culated in this district, and is of in- j terest to vour many readers: — | <‘ To the Parishioners of the Para- •
paraumu District: Now that the end of the fighting has come, and we may look forward to the speedy consummation or peace, it is fitting that we should allow our thankfulness to God to take de-finite-form. We remember that in the world’s history no generation has been called on to bear- the high honour of suffering for the Kingdom of God as our own. The agony of it has come to an end now, and with thankful hearts we are looking forward to a new age, in which the world will be different and 1 better. So the token of our thanksgiving shall be fitted to the greatness of the occasion; we shall make no unworthy offering to God. We are remembering man’s part —the effort and sacrifice made by the men of our kin; and all that wo could do-for them would ! hardly be enough. But that effort would have been lost unless God had accepted and blessed it; so it rests with us to devise some means of showing; our thankfulness to Him. In this parish a fund has already been started (but it 1 was interrupted by the epidemic)' by means of which we may show our gratitude to God. The proposal is to set up memorials and rolls of liononr, which shall be simple, dignified, and permanent., in each of the four churches of the parish, upon which the names of all the men who served from the several- districts shall be recorded. I should like to see the fund raised to not, less than £.100; that- would leave a substantial ’sum, after the four memorials arc provided, to be spent- in some special way, which shall bn decided at a future meeting of subscribers, for the glory of God. The fund will remain open until fine peace is signed, but it would lie well if donations were sent in as soon as possible; they may be sent to myself or to either of the churchwardens. —G. V. KENDRICK, Vicar.'. Parapuraumu.
