He said that Australia ATould be in a position to look after herself in the matter, as the possibilities would be fully met by the Federal Government Council.
The persons referred to in the regulations are:— (1) Anyone avlio lands in the Commonwealth in contraA-ention of these regulations. (2) Any person who is a passenger on a vessel Avhieh enters Australian waters and is not in possession of a passport. (2) Any members of the crew of a vessel avlio, not being in possession, of a passport, in the opinion of a competent naval or military authority intends ito desert his vessel, . -. • Any such person may be required by a competent naval or military authority to lea A-e theAGommonwcalth. > Until he leaves he may bo detained in such a manner as a competent naval •■ or military authority may direct, and AA-hile so detained ho shall be deemed to be in legal custody.
