HOROWHENUA COUNTY PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly, meeting of ! the Horowhenua County Patriotic Association was held at Levin on Wednesday after---noon. Present:' Messrs P. W. Goldsmith (in the chair), C. S. Keedwcll, E. McLean, A. McLeavey, W. J. Howell, J. McLeavey, and H." Andrew. Apologies were received from the remaining delegates. A sum of £3 paid out by the Manairatu Patriotic Society on behalf of a soldier who enlisted from Levin was ordered to be refunded. A letter was received from the Manawatu Society concerning a Shannon soldier who had been badly gassed and who was in straitened circumstances. He was married and had a Government pension of £6 10s per month. The Manawatu Society had advanced £S, which they desired to be refunded. This was agreed to. The soldier himself also wrote asking for a grant to furnish three rooms. It was decided to grant £25, but to ask the Manawatu Association to expend same. ' Another request from the Christchurch Patriotic Society for £3 paid to a Levin soldier was granted.
