, Chrifstchurch, March 3. At about 11.30 this morning, a-serious ! tussock'firo started near Camp Bay at ! Lyttelton, and at 4.30 : this afternoon j the Are had burnt some 2000 or 3000 'seres of. tussock country. It was re-
| ported that nearly a thousand sheep I suid tivo-tooth ewes and' wethers bei"lo«ging to Candy! whose station is i near Camp Bay, had been destroyed. The fire is said to have originated i-" 1 __tkc blocking .operations of ft r.\u’"-:r of "public works men who lied been, engaged in making a wharf to Camp Bay. Although they made every effort to prevent the lire spreading, the dry nature of the tussocks and the undcr- ; growth made the work a hopeless one, ! and the fire quickly obtained, a strong hold.
