A RIKIORANGI MATTER.
To the Editor. Sir, —In your issue of the 21st a let* tcr Was published from Mr John BaM rnussen under the above heading. Ml! Rasmtassen mentions Mr Monk's Hand and mine, and then goes on to say,] "The latter called on me on- Friday and told me Mr Monk told him to erect: a gate across the road." As this state* ment is inaccurate, probably uninten-j tionally so, and concerns a third party! I think it only common fairness-to M"l Monk for me to ask you to kindly alloffj me space to correct Mr Basmusseri. I! met bira on the road where he wa>! working and asked him how long i' would take him to reach my fence. 03 receiving hi.? reply I said, "3lr Moni has asked me if I have any objection to put a gate where my fence crosses J thg road." Mr. Monk was seeking % basis for negotiation with Mr Rasmcisen, and not settling .the matter "c2 his own bat," as would be gleaned! from the alleged statement. I may say j en passant that the road, so called, U ' at present a road in name only, and a* present rote of construction it will be twelve months at least before iU lightest vehicle can get along it. Thanking you in anticipation for your space. —I am, etc., ' V.'. y. JO3TES, Rikioraagi. Feb. 25, I'Jl'tt.
