At a recent .meeting of a local body not 100 miles from Wellington a councillor twitted the Mayor with weakness, and'insinuated that the latter hadn’t enough pluck to say “Bo!” to a goose. Samuel Johnson, the famous lexicographer, essayist and poet, was onco summoned to appear in the presence of that ill-mancnrcd Sovereign, George the t hird. Johnson was a man of uncouth appearance, and when the King saw aim he said: “You! You are not Samuel Johnson?
