PERSONAL.
Mr E. Sowman (at one time mine host of the Manakau Hotel) lias purchased Mr W. Kilsby’s small farm and residence on the Hautcre road.
The death occurred at Waipawa of Mr J. Eccleton, father of Mr W. C. Eceleton, late of Levin. Deceased succumbed to the effects of severe burns he received recently. Deceased for many years was a well-known Wairarapa constable, being stationed in Grey town for a considerable time.
Lady members of tho Presbyterian Church Guild congregated in full force at Levin on Thursday to bid farewell to Mrs Walter Simpson, who has decided to take up residence in Palmerston North. A very pleasant afternoon was spent, and the guest made the recipient of a nice presentation, which was gracefully acknowledged. Owing to indisposition, Miss Gray, infant mistress at the Otaki State •School, is having an extension of her midsummer holidays. In the meantime her place at the school is being taken by Miss Crellau. Miss Christensen has been added to the staff of the local State school, as pupil teacher, to take the place of Mr Waghorn (probationer), who will now attend tho training college.
Private W. Ayrc, son of Mr and Mrs M. H. Ay re, of this (own, returned to New Zealand by the Oxfordshire, and reached his home by the late train on Monday niglit. Private Ayre went went away with the Second Reinforcements, and has had a lengthy and varied experience in Egypt arid France. We are glad to know that he is now much improved in health. Private Con. Noble, son of Mr and Mrs J. Noble, of Otaki, returned by the same boat, and spent a day at Otaki prior to taking his departure for his home, in Blenheim. Privates W. H. Ransom, P. J. Teal, and A. Watson (Levin) have also just returned home.
