MANAKAU.

(From our own Correspondent.) The committee of the Manakau Patriotic Society met last night, when there wore present: Mrs Winter, Messrs Howard Andrew (chairman), Les. and Alf. Atkins, F. Burnell, F. Winter and C. Nees (secretary). This is the first meeting of the committee held since last, November. It was resolved to hold a social gathering to welcome a number of soldiers who had recently returned from the front, the function to be held on Friday week. The ladies arc to be asked to attend to the refreshments, while Messrs Andrew and Winter will secure the programme. Several matters were discussed, but held over for the new committee, it being the intention of holding the annual meeting of tlio Society as soon as the accounts are passed by the auditor. NOTES. Private C. Bird has returned to Manakau, and lias been heartily welcomed by friends. The local tennis players will engage in a match with the Shannon Club, at. Shannon, on Wednesday next. Mr and Mrs Ogden and sou (returned soldier) are on a visit to Manakau —the guests of Mrs P. Inga.
