HORTICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY.

COMMITTEE MEETING. 'V', Tho committee of the Horowhenu*. Horticultural aud Industrial Society mot at tho reading-room on Friday night last, when there were present: Mcsdamcs Synnott and Hodgson, Messrs Frank Perm (president), H. lYitchell, A. E. Minton, Summers, IL Cockrell, W. 11. Reynolds, S. Norgrovo (Secretary), and Rev. Fctrie. The Autumn Show. Some little discussion ensued re a suggestion that a two-days’ show bo held in March next (tho usual Autumn Show). Some thought possibly, by holding a two days’ show, the Societymight bo able to niako up for tho expense entailed by the eonipusofy abandonment of the recent Spring Show, on account of the epidemic. Tho majority were of opinion, however, that the second-day of the show would be poorly patronised, ami it would scarcely be worth while, pointing out that past experience had showed that two-day shows were not a success n Otaki. After the matter htxl been fully vontilatcd it was resolved to adhere to the 1 one-day show, as previously arranged—on Wednesday, March 12th. Schoolwork and Needlework, It was pointed out that many intending exhibitors had prepared exhibits in the schoolwork and needlework sections for the Spring Show that was abandoned, and it would only bo fair to include these sections in the forthcoming exhibition. It was therefore decided to add to the Autumn Show schedule classes 103 to IG6 from the Spring Show schedule (embracing the whole of the sc>.o<dwork and needlework sections), but to eliminate the small needlework section which had been provided for in the autumn schedule.

Mr W. 11. Reynolds kindly offered a special prize of 5s for two photographs, not larger than quarter-plate, in tho children’s section, Mr Witched! offering a second prize of 2s 6d in the same section. It was decided to excise tho word "landscape” from tho class for photographs (open class). Mr R. Glentworth’s special prize for butter containing up to 10 per cent, moisture, donated for the Spring Show, was made to apply to the forthcoming Show. Judges. On tho motion of Mr Witcheli, seconded by Mr Broadway, all the judges appointed for the Spring Show were asked fo act 7»r the Show on March 12tb, with (he addition of a judge for fruit and vegetable classes, Messrs T. Horton, Ltd., to be asked to send a judge for these sections. Miscellaneous. "1 Mesdames Hodgson and Synnott kindly agreed to take charge of the sweet stall for the Show, while Mrs Huthwaite consented to secure a fat lamb for the guessing competition. The arrangement of committee fo manage the refreshment room vraa left to the next meeting. , Several matters of detail were discussed. briefly, and-the meeting adjourned to February 21th. ~ *1
