PROMISED,\FOR .MARCH. Steady; progress is being niade with the project to. provide standard boots for tlie public at reasonable prices. The Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald, ActingPresident of the Board' of Trade, states that a report of this branch shows that little now remains to be done, before the scheme can be launched. The Board's expert has visited Auckland, Dvmcdin and Christchureh, and has taken a range of. samples of footwear, representing the lines it is intended to standardise. The manufacturers, through their associations, have expressed their approval of the scheme, and the retailers arc also largely in favour of it. Those members of the public who have seen the exhibition at Auckland and Dunodin have expressed unanimous approval of the scheme. As to whether the x>robability of peace will affect the scheme, the Minister says that in view of the steps taken he is strongly of the opinion that the scheme should be carried out, iu order to give tlie public a good reliable boot at reasonable price. iu his opinion, is us necessary now as during the war period. He is influenced in his opinion by the fact that the English scheme is to be continued despitb the cessation of hostilities.
