THE RUSSIAN INTRIGUE. Sydney, November 6.

A Japauese paper commenting on the Russian intrigue in China, says even since last autumn transports have been coming from the Black Sea laden with troops. None of these soldiers ever go back. Allowing the steamers each a fortnight, and a thousand soldiers to each ship, a formidable army is being thrown into Eastern Siberia. The massing of troops and warships has a deep signifiance. These ships and men are not to be directed against Japan unless Japan invites them. Russias' aim is less to intimidate Japan with the thought that she is the one factor, than to prepare for an extended occupancy of the territory, which is necesary for the completion of her railway. The information adds that Japan has opened the oyster and Russia will not be content with the shell. FLUKE IN SHEEP. Sydney, November 6. As the result of exhaustive investigations, an Agricultural Department expert has discovered that an intermediate host of the dreaded sheep-fluke is the common land snail. The discovery is considered of worldwide scientific and general importance, and will form the ground of recommendations to be issued shortly for checking the disease.

It has also been ascertained that the greatest friend of the sheep owners in destroying snails is the bird know as the common peewee.
