Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co.’s Stock Report. At Opunake, on 29th inst., there •was a good entry, but competition slack. At Kakaramea on 31st, we had a large entry and keen bidding throughout, most lines being sold at auction. We quote— At Opunake—ls-month heifers, 81s 6d to 37s 6d ; calves, 18s 6d to 20s ; weaners, 24s to 28s ; yearlings, 88s to £2 ; 2-year steers, £2 15s ; 3-year bullocks, £3 16s ; springers, £4 to £4 10s ; store cows, £2 12s 6d to £2 16s. At Kakaramea—Weaners, 24s 6d to 295; calves, 18s to 21s; 18-month steers, £2 9s to £2 11s; 2-year steers, £2 16s to £3 ; 3-year steers, £4 6s 6d to £4 10s ; forward bullocks £5 5s ; empty cows, £2 12s 6d to £2 16s; fat cows, £4 13s ; yearlings, 36s 6d to £2 ; shorn ewes, 7s. Egmont Farmers’ Union (Ltd.) Report. Hawera, October 31. Owing to a very wet day we had a much smaller entry of stock at Stratford than was advertised. Not many persons attended, and bidding except for young stock, was slow, but this class sold well. We quote : —Cows and calves, £2 15s to £3 ; yearlings, mixed sexes, £1 5s to £1 18s ; weaners, 15s to 18s. There was a very large number of horses entered for our fair on Saturday, the 26th inst. The attendance was large but bidding was dragging, except for draughts and upstanding hacks, but as a good many of this class were entered we managed to quit a good number at the hammer or immediately after. We quote : —Draughts, £ls to £2O 15s ; light harness horses, £8 to £l2 10s ; hacks, £2 to £ll 15s. We held an unreserved cleaving sale on Mr Jollie’s farm, near Patea, on Tuesday, the 29th inst., when all the stock with the exception of the dairy cows, which were really good, brought satisfactory prices. We quote:—Dairy cows and heifers, £4 to £5 ; yearlings, mixed, £1 to £1 16s; calves, 10s; horses and ponies, £3 5s to £9 ; pigs, 10s to 15s. At the Glover road yards, Hawera, on 38th inst., considerably more cattle came forward than was advertised, and, with very few exceptions, everything was sold, although bidding was slow throughout. We quote :—Fat bullocks, £5 16s to £6 15s; forward steers £6 to £5 8s; 2to 2-|-year steers, £2 12s 6d to £3 8s ; fat cows, £3 15s to £4 ; 15 to 20 month mixed, £1 18s to £2 2s : yearlings, mixed, £1 5s to £1 8s 6d ; springing heifers, £3 2s 9d to £3 14s. Sheep—Fat ewes, shorn, Bs. Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. New Plymouth, October 31. Cattle—At Stratford, on Tuesday, the yards were* well filled. Prices for young stock showed a slight advance upon the previous sale, and store cows and dairy stock were several shilllings per head better. Small calves made 11s ; good ditto, 21s to 25s 6d; yearlings, 26s 6d to 32s 6d ; 18 month to 2-year steers, £2 5s to £2 7s ; 2 to do., £2 12s 6d to £2 16s 6d ; 12 to 18-month empty heifers, 84s to 87s ; 18 to 20 month do,, £2 to £2 7s 6d ; springing do., £2 10s to £4 2s ; empty cows, £2 10s to £2 14s 6d ; fresh do,, £3 4s; springers, £3 10s to £6 ss. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was a good muster, with increased demand for young stock ; although prices were not much higher the majority of lines were sold. Dairy cattle were only a medium lot, and only made moderate prices. I quote :—Calves, 15s to 255; yearlings, 28s to 84s ; 18month steers, £2 3s to £2 7s; 2£ do., £2 17s 6d ; springing heifers, £2 17s to £3 16s; store cows, £1 18s 6d to £2 14s ; springers, £3 to £4 10s ; fat do., £4 to £4 11s ; fat bullocks, £5 11s ; mixed sheep, 9s lid. Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Report. Horses—Above an average number were brought forward and found purchasers at little or no alteration on the previous week’s prices. Again a good many were disposed of by auction on Friday at the Durham Yards ; competition good throughout the sale. We quote :—Heavy draughts at from £l3 15s to £2l 10s ; medium, £lO to £l4 10s; light harness, £5 10s to £ll 17s 6d ; hacks, £3 10s to £9 15s; a wellbred hack, £l7 10s. Wool, hides, &c. A large catalogue was gone through at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, and there was an upward tendency in values for good sound hides hides. We quote: Ox hides, 5d to 6£d; stout, 4d to 4fd; cow and steer, to 3£d ; sloppy and damaged, 2d to 2d ; tallow, 15s to 16s 6d cwt; sheepskins, local, 3s 9d to 6s 9tl each ; country, Is lOd to 5s Id ; lambskins, Is to Is 4d ; pelts, 6d to Is 8d ; wool, in bags, 4|d to 6d lb ; pieces, 3d to4d. Cattle were brought forward in slightly increased numbers, but the previous week’s values were sustained. The Newmarket pens were fairly occupied on Tuesday. Bidding was steady throughout the sale. Prices for dairies were slightly in favor of the purchaser. Grown steers sold at from £4 to £5 10s ; 2-year steers, £2 15s to £3 2s 6d; calves, £1 6s to £1 lis ; dry cows, £1 15s to £4 6s ; ox beef, £1 Is to £1 2s per 1001 b ; cow do, £1 ; no heavy weights were disposed of. Sheep ; The Newmarket pens were well filled on Tuesday, and bidding was good for wethers in wool at from 11s 6d to 17s Gd ; wethers, Gs to 7s 6d; ewes, shorn, 7s 3d to 10s 3d; spring lambs, 5s 3d to 10s 3d. Pigs: Sufficient for requirements sold at from 15s to £1 12s each ; weaners, 3s to 11s 2d.
