Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co.’s Stock Report.

At Opunake, on 7th inst., we had a fair entry, but bidding throughout was Black. At Kakaramea, on 3rd inst., considerably more stock than advertised came forward, consequently buyers were scarce. We quote — At Opunake—2-year steers, £2 14s to £8; yearlings, 36s to £2; store cows, . £2 17s to £3 ; calves, 18s Gd to 255; 18-month heifers, £2 ss; springing heifers, £4 13s to £5. At Kakaramea —Yearlings, 36s to 40s ; store cows, £2 17s 6d to £3 2s 6d ; 2-year steers, £3 ; weaners, 26s to 80s; springing heifers, £3 15s to £4 10s ; dairy cows, £4 12s 6d to £5 2s 6d.

Hawera; October 3.

We had an unexpectedly large entry of cattle come forward for sale at Stratford on Friday, the 27th ult., far more than advertised. The attendance was - rather smaller than usual, but for all that a great number of lines changed hands at prices on a par with previous sales. We quote—3Jyear steers, £4 5s to £4 12s ; 18 month to 2-year steers, £2 5s to £2 14s 6d ; fat cows, £4 to £4 5s ; dairy cows and heifers, £3 2s 6d to £4 10s; 18-month to 2-year heifers, £2 to £2 14s ; yearlings, mixed, £1 10s to £1 18s 6d ; calves, 15s to £l. Our monthly horse fair was held on Saturday, the 28th ult., and, in spite of a very wet day a fair number of horses were entered, for sale, some being of good quality. The attendance was very good but bidding was for the most part slow throughout. However, by the close of the sale we had managed to place a fair number of horses. We quote—Draughts, £ls to £2l; light harness horses, £8 5s to £l2 15s; hacks, £3 to £9 15s. We had an unreserved clearing sale on behalf of Mr D. H. Irvine, on his farmatPokomoko, Meremere,on Tuesday, the Ist inst., and the weather being favorable there was a good muster present. The dairy cows and heifers were, taken as a whole, a fair herd, and realised their value. Other lines of stock, including sheep and horses,, sold very well, as did the implements, but the furniture and sundries were almost given away. We quote—Dairy cows, £4 12s 6d to £7 17s 6d; dairy heifers, £4 5s to £6 ; store cows, £2 5s to £2 11s ; store cows, £2 5s to £2 11s ; store cows and calves, £3 to £3 11s ; horses, £5 to £l2 6s. Sheep- -Mixed 12s. Pigs, 12s 6d to £1 10s.

Our fortnightly sale of stock was held in the Glover road yards, Hawera, on Wednesday, the 2nd inst. We quote—Fat bullocks, £6 2s 6d to £7 ; fot and forward do., £5 7s 6d to £5 15s ; 2£ to 3-year steers, £4 to £4 14s ; fat cows, £8 19s to £6 ; 2 to steers, £8 6s to £4 ; 12 to 18-month mixed, £1 19s 6d to £2 4s. Sheep— Dry ewes, 8s lOd: ewes and lambs, 10s 2d.

New Plymouth, SeptembSr 8. Cattle—At Stratford, on Tuesday, cattle mustered freely. There was a fair attendance; bidding slow. We quote—Calves, £1 to £1 6s ; yearlings, 27s to 84s 6d ; 15 to 18-month mixed, £2 8s to £2 6s; 18 month to 2-year steers, £2 7s 6d to £2 15s ; 2£ do., £2 19s to £3 6d ; 3-year do., £3 15s; heifers, in calf, £2 9s ; springers, £8 to £4 12s 6d; springing cows, £2 10s to £6 19s 6d ; stores, £1 to £2 15s 6d. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was a large number, not a quarter of the number being entered. I quote— Calves, 18s to 25s ; yearlings, 25s 6d to 28s 6d ; 15 month mixed, 31s 6d to 33s ; 18-month do., £2 4s to £2 6s ; 20 months steers, £2 lls; springing heifers, £3 5s to £4; store cows, £l to £2 15 ; springers, £3 to £6 17s 6d ; fat do., £4 ss. Land—l have to report having sold Mr Cottier’s well-known farm of 530 acres at Tatairamaka, to Messrs J. and E. Morgan. Messrs F. R. Jackson and Cos.’ Stock Report. The market was not very brisk. We had a good entry of cattle, and sold the bulk at the quotation. At Waverley prices were on a par with the previous sale. We quote— Cattle—At Waverley : Cows, £2 10s to £4 3s; yearlings, £1 15s; weaners, 84s to 85s ; separator calves, 15s to 225. At Wanganui: Bullocks, £4 10s to £4 lls; steers, £2 10s to £3 ; heifers, £2 10s ; cows and calves, £8 9s 6d ; weaners, 34s 6d ; yearlings, £2 4s 6d.

Sheep—At Waverley : Hoggets, 6s lid to 8s 9d. At Wanganui: Fat ewes, lls 7d to lls lid ; old ewes and lambs, 7s 6d. Pigs—Pork, 20s to 225; porkers, 14s to 18s ; small pigs, 6s to Bs.
