Opening of New Anglican Church.

On Sunday the new Anglican Church of S. Barnabas was opened, when a very large congregation attended both morning and evening services. The Rev J. W. Chapman officiated on the occasion. Both services were fully choral, and the music was well rendered, the choir being assisted by Mesdames Stott and King, and Mr Morey, of Manaia. As an offertory anthem Atwood’s “ Turn thy face from my sins ” was sung as a quartette, the parts being taken by Mrs Stott (soprano), Mrs King (alto), Mr Morey (tenor), and the Rev Mr Chapman (bass), and was beautifully and devotioually rendered. Miss Prosser presided at the organ throughout both services. Sir Parish, who had trained the choii for the occasion, deserves a word of praise for the excellent result produced. Mr Hardiug-Masou read the lessons. At the morning service the Rev Mr Chapman preached a very eloquent sermon, taking for his text “ House of Prayer,” and at the evening service took for his text “ Unity.” Special collections wore made, and were liberally responded to.
