Mr E. C. Middleton is the happy possessor of a dnck whioh is doing its best to put up a record in the laying line, which, we think, will be hard to beat. It is a grey duck, without any known pedigree,' being hatched from a chance sitting of eggs in the spring of 1893. It started laying on the 20th June, 1894, and kept oh continuously till the 10th February, 1895. It then moulted and enjoyed a well-earned rest until the Bth April, when it commenced laying again, and up to date has produced 45 eggs, not. missing a single day. Can a better reoord be produoed ?
Mr J. Harding-Mason has purchased the lease of Mr Pellew's premises, and is having it fitted u ; > in nice style for his "own'accommodation." He has opened a large stock of drugs and fancy goods, giving the premises quite the appearance of a city shop. It will ba found a great convenience to be able to get presorptions made up in the place without having to suffer the inconvenience, delay and expense of sending out. of. the district. All his stock is quite new, and is therefore reliable. Toilet requisites and perfumes form a 1 ading -feature in his stock. Mr Harding-Mason is also an experienced dentist, and those suffering from toothache can have their pain alleviated by giving him a call.
Considerable consternation was felt in the family of Mr Stevenson, photographer, on Sunday last, by the crashing of a bullet through the back of their residence, Mountain Road'and the narrow escape of one member, at least, of the household. The bullet had evidently come from the gun of one of those so-called sportsmen who can find nothiug in the township on Sunday to shoot at except dwelling houses, haystacks not being sufficiently numerous to enable them to indulge.in short-range rifle exercise. The affair is in the hands of Constable Ryan, and we trust the offender in tbo present instance will be captured and brought before the Stipendiary Magistrate, in order that such a dangerous practice may be discontinued. — Record."
