Land Board.

The Land Board met on Monday. Present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr Strauchon), Messrs Kelly, Stook, Heslop, and Roy. RE-APPOINTED. The Commissioner intimated that C. K. Stock had been re-appointed a member of the Board. TRANSFERS. Two applications were received for transfer of d.p. lands : G. Burrows, jun., to himself and G. Burrows, sen., Section 3, Block 7, Egmont; and H. Okey to R. Benefield, Section 49, Block 10, Huiroa. The first application was agreed to, and.in the case of Mr Okey it was resolved, That the Government be requested to decide the large point involved in the following case: A deferred payment section was taken up by Ain July, 1890. In August last it was transferred to B. B now applies for a transfer to C. The Board is in doubt whether it can legally transfer the section, as B has only held the section some nine k months, and it would appear to conflict with sub-section 1 of section 88 of the Land Act, 1892, which prohibits the transfer until the occupier *iias held the section twelve months. CAPITALISATION. The following applied to capitalise and pay off d.p. lands : J. Starkuski, Section 47, Block 6, Huiroa; T. Maloney, Sections 63, 54, and 55, Block 11, Opunake.—Agreed to. ACQUIRING FREEHOLDS. C. McGechie's application to acquire freehold of d.p. Section 22, Block 4, Kaupokonui, was sanctioned. The following p.l. applications were also acceded to—J. T. Eggers, Section 84, Block 7, Kaupokonui; W. R. Perry, Section 25, Block 8, Kaupokonui; N. King, Section 4, Block 2, Upper Waitara. EXTENSION OF TIME. W. Robertson asked to be allowed two months in which to endeavor to find a partner to join him in the lease of Section 22, Block 9, Ngatimarn, surrendered by him because he could not pay arrears of rent. SURRENDERS. J. Dunick's application to surrender his sub-lease from T. Burckett of Section 1, Block 11, Huiroa, was acceded to. Mrs L. Tarnbull applied to be allowed to surrender her leases of Sections 11 and 12, Block 8, Waitara, and asked that the amount of valuation for improvements to be put upon the lands when re-offered. In the event of the sections being re-selected, the applicant asks that the money for improvements be paid to her.—The surrender was accepted, the improvements will be valued, and the sections will for selection weighted with the value of improvements. SUB-LEASE. Jas. Beedie applied for permission to sub-let p.l. Section 5, Block 7, Huiroa, to Geo. Grant for five years. —Agreed to. FOBFEITED. The Commissioner reported that the following had not signed their leases : A. P. Taylor, Section 5, Block 2, Ngatimaru; J. Rumbal, Section 12, Block 2, Ngatimaru. The sections will be declared forfeited. Also, J. Kennington, Section 15, Block 9, Ngatimaru; and W. Irving, Section 21, Block 9, Ngatimaru. , YEARLY LEASES. The following applied for yearly leases in Stratford : Rev Hutson (for Presbyterian Church), Section 354; A. Burgess, Section 840; J. R. Campbell, Section 390.—Agreed to. PAYING OFF. E. Gibson was granted a further period of four years in which to pay off the capitalised value of Section 77, Block 10. Kaupokonui. IN ARREARS. 1 Two sections were reported three payments in arrear :—G. V. T&ieHseetions 2 and 130, suburban,. (£22 L.S. Barraclongh, Section 32, Block 6, Waimate (£25 4s). Notice will be given to them to show cause why the leases should not be forfeited. RANGER'S REPORT. The Ranger reported having inspected acc&ss to P. Williamson's Section 23, Block 4, Huiroa, and recommended that the suction be not taken off the selector's hands, but that in the ovent of it being surrendered the land be weighted with the cost of improvements (£127 10s), and if re-selected the money received to go towards improving the road section.—A copy of the report and of Mr Prestney's offer to allow Mr Williamson to go through his land until the road be made will be sent to Mr Williamson with a request that he state definitely whether ho will surrender. nOLDSWOBTH? ROAD. The application of Mr H. R. Wells and the Rev F. W\ Walker to purchase that portion of the closed Holdsworthy Road, south of their respective properties was again considered.— Notice was given to rescind the resolution of 2nd April, proposing to offer it for sale to the adjoining property owners. PETITION. A petition from settlers on the Hastings Road as to the deferred payment thirds being spent on any other road than that referred to was received and referred to the Ranger for his report.
