Wesleyan Social.
The Wesleyan social, held in the Town Hail on Wednesday evening, was very successful, a crowded audience being in attendance.l There were visitors i'tora all parts of the circuit and a pleasant and enjoyable evening was spent. A long programme of vocal and instrumental items was gone through. At the interval refreshments on a veiy liberal scale were handed around the room. Mrs and the Misses Cannell took a leading part in the instrumental and vocal items during the evening, being quite an acquisition to the musical talent of the district. The trio, " The Wreath," by Mrs and Miss Cannell and Mr Breach was quite a musical treat and was encored. Master Willie Hutchens received a well merited recall for his song, " There's no one like Mother to me." Mr Johnson, from Otakeho, was recalled for his song, and the " Three oldg maids of Lee " inimitably, and in the second part of the programme delighted the audience with his skill in whistling. The anthems by the choir, under the conductorship of Mr Hutchens were very spiritedly sung. The following is the full programme : Pianoforte trio, " Silver Trumpets," the Misses Cannell; trio, "The Wreath, " Mrs and Miss Cannell, and Mr Breach; song, " The place where the old horse died," Mr Fisher -.violin duet, " Amoretten Tanze," the Misses Cannell; song, " Come unto Me," Mrs Cannell; anthem," The Lord shall comfort Zion," choir; song, " Never mind the rest," Mrs Wood ; soug, Mr Johnson ; song, " No one like Mother to me," Master Willie Hutchens ; pianoforte duet, " Shepherd's Evening Song," Miss Carter and Miss Cross ; Mr Johnson whistled " Robin Adair " and -'Home Sweet Home";, song, " The Better Land," Mrs Hutchens; glee, " Oh, who will o'er the downs," company ; instrumental march, " The Queen's Review," company; song, " Long Shoreman," Mr Raikes; pianoforte selection,. Mr Barritt; anthem, " Oh, how lovely is Zion," choir; song, " Committed to the deep," Mrs Wood ; " God save the Queen."
The Rev Mr Canuell, at the conelusion of the programme heartily thanked all those who had so kindly assisted in various ways to make the social such a success.
