SCHOOL COMMITTEE; (Our own Correspondent.! A meeting of the Rahotu School Committee was held in the J schoolroom on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs Harrison, Rothery, Morrison, West, Swinnerton, and Kahui. In the absence of the chairman, Mr Harrison was voted to the chair.’. The minutes of the previous com* mittee meeting were read and confirmed. After consideration of the attendance returns laid on the table, which showed that the average attendance from February 25 th to May Brd was 52-9, and for the week ending May Brd 54*2, it was resolved that notice be sent to the parents of children who have not attended a sufficient number of times to comply with the Act. A letter from the teacher was read asking that a pupil teacher ba appointed, as the attendance warranted such being done. .. • Resolved that the application the teacher for an assistant be refinfred to the Education Board. Resolved that two drinking cups asked for by the teacher bo obtained, together with a lock and key and a number of hat-pegs. Resolved that the chairman be authorised to get holes round the school and swing filled in, the cost not to exceed 80s. Resolved that application be made to the Education Board to . line the kitchen of the teacher’s residence, and to erect a fence round the same. Resolved that a deputation, consisting of Messrs Rothery and Morrison, interview the Education Board 4W.it* next meeting to urge the advisability of enlarging the school.
A rifle practice was held on Satur* day afternoon. The boisterous wind which was blowing caused the scores to suffer badly. The distances were 200, 600, and 600 yards; 5 shots at each range.
