An Electric Shock.
An electric light wire accident of a somewhat serious nature occurred in Constable Street, Newtown, Wellington, about 8 o'clock on Monday night. It appears that some time during the afternoon one of the electric light wires was blown down by the wind, and lay on the ground near tbe footpath. When the lamps were lit at night the electricity of course travelled along the wire, and unfortunately three persons came in contact with it. A young man named Bernard Hanson, who lives with his parents at Kilbirnie, by some means which are as yet un* explained, touched the wire, and received a severe shock, besides having the little finger of his left hand badly burnt. Constable Carroll removed him to the hospital without delay, Hanson being then in a state of unconsciousness, but after some time he came round, and at latest accounts he was out of danger. • A young woman named Alice Mason was also burned on the hand from the same cause, and her younger sister received some slight injuries. One account is to the effect that when the wire was broken during the day some person foolishly tied one end to the fence on the other side of the footpath, and that the persons who were injured thus walked up against the wire in passing along the street. —N.Z.
