HAWERA COUNTY CHAIRMAN.
Mr S. Forsyth, who has been County Chairman for the past four years, declined re-election to the position after his return at the recent election for Waimate. During his term of office ho has been most attentive to his duties, and has given very general satisfaction to a 1! parts of the district. The office of chairman is no sinecure, and requires the sacrifice of a considerable amount of time, of which many of the ratepayers are not aware. Being so far situated from headquarters, made it also inconvenient, as he had to bear considerable expense in attending to the duties of the office, which was a charge ou his own pocket. Previous chairmen have usually had a sum voted to them to cover actual expenses, a>'d the late chairman is justly entitled to a similar grant. His successor, Mr John Heslop, is not new to the office, as he served a term previously, when he performed his duties with very commendable zeal, and ratepayers may confidently anticipate that their interests in his hands will be well looked after.
