Egmont Licensing Committee.

ADJOURNED QUARTERLY MEETING. The adjourned meeting of the Egmont Licensing Committee was: held last week. Present: — Commisioners Mac Kay (chairman), Monkhouse, Brown, Me* Bae, Franklyn, and Lambie. Messrs Brown, Mcßae and Lambie' apologised for their absence at last meeting; they got insufficient notice. The clerk said the date of the meeting was fixed by the returning officer on the first, Friday in March, 'June, September, and December. The Chairman said it would be as well to send a notice in future. Police report on all the houses in the district was read and was satisfactory, except in the case of the Oeo Hotel when the report stated that quarrelling took place between the licensee and his wife. The committee said this was the , second time this matter had been brought before the committee and though no formal complaint had been made, they thought some action should, ba taken to prevent it coming before thiena again. Constable Ryan who appeared for the police said the next meeting was a very important one and the committee could consider the question of refusing the renewal of the license. He suggested that the clerk should write giving the licensee a caution. It was decided that this should be done. TRANSFERS. Transfers were then granted as follows : Mount Egmont Hotel, Midhirst, Ralph Collins to John Couchman. Mr Davitt appeared for Mr Couchman. Middleton’s Hotel, Opunake, W. W. Middleton to John Kennedy. Mr Foolces, instructed by Mr Breton, appeared in support of the application. Manaia Hotel, Manaia, Charles Lewis to Thomas J. Howash. Mr Fookes, instructed by Mr Bennet, appeared in support of the application. Inglewood Hotel, Inglewood, William Walker to William Thos. Hook. Mr Fookes appeared in support of the application.—Settler.
