< .♦ Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. Cattle.—At Stratford, on Tuesday, there was a good muster of stock. There was a large attendance, with a good sprinkling of buyers. Prices all round showed a decided improvement, most lines being quitted at the hammer, and only two or three pens went home. Calves made 11s to 26s 6d ; yearlings, 83s to 89s ; 15 to 18-month steers, £2 to £2 7s ; 2 to 2§-year steers, £2 17s to £3 2s 6d ; 3 to 34-year steers, £3 18s to £4 4s ; heifers in calf, £2lss to £2 19s ; cows and calves, £3 5s to £3 11s ; store cows, £2 8s to £2 16s ; fat cows, £8 14s to £4 2s 6d. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was a small entry, and only moderate attendance. A good many buyers were present, and the tone of the sale was much more healthy than of late, nearly every pen being sold. Steers showed an improvement of about 5s per head; calves remained at about

Bidding w 7 ns fairly brisk for all classes of stock, more particularly those of good-quality. We quote : Forward steers, £3 17s Gd to £4 ; 18-month to 2-year do, £2 15s to £3 j 9 to 18-month, £1 5s to £2 3s Gd ; weaners, mixed, 19s to 235; cows and springing heifers, £3 5s to £5; heifers, £2 2s to £2 17s Gd ; cull ewes, 2s 2d to 2s Gd.

On Saturday, the 2nd, our timber and sundries sale was largely attended, and satisfactory prices were made for the goods submitted. At our fortnightly Glover Road sale, Hawera, on the Gth instant, the yards were filled with both cattle and sheep of good quality, some of the beef and forward steers being exceptionally good. The attendance was large, though prices reached were about par with those at the previous sale. Bidding was decidedly keener than we have experienced for a considerable time past, resulting in nearly every line of stock changing hands before leaving the yards. We quote: Fat bullocks, £5 15s to £6 Gs ; forward steers, £3 18s to £4 15s; 2-year do, £2 17s to £3; 12 to 18-mooth do, £1 18s to £2 6s ; weaners, mixed, 17s to 255; fat cows and heifers, £3 15s to £4 15s ; forward heifers, £2 17s 6£,to £3 15s; 18-mouth to 2-year do, £1 16s to £2 ss. Sheep : 2,8, and 6tooth ewes, mixed, 5s to 8s; cull ewes, 2s Id; forward wethers, 7s 6d ; woolly lambs, 4s 8d ; fat ewes, Gs Id. Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co.’s Stock Report. Our yards, at Waverley were fairly well filled with both cattle and sheep, and we placed nearly all that came forward. At St. Hill Street, on Wednesday, the bidding was better than of late, and we sold nearly all out. Sheep : At Waverley ; Fat ewes, 7s 8d ; young breeding ewes, 6s to 6s 3d ; old ewes, 2s to 8s Gd ; store wethers, 7s; lambs, Is 4d. At Wanganui: Wethers, 7s 9d to 8s 8d ; young ewes, 6s to 7s 2d ; others, 4s 2d to 6s lOd ; old ewes, Is to 2s Id; lambs, Is 8d to 2s 9d ; rams, 7s Gd to 20s. Pigs : Small bacon, 2Gs Gd to 30s ; good porkers, 19s to 28s ; smaller porkers, 14s to IGs; small pigs, 3s Gd to 6s 3d.

We quote—Maize, 2s to 2s 3d per bushel; oats, white, 2s ; dun, Is lOd to 2s; bran, £2 12s 6d ton ; ryegrass, 8s 3d to 5s bushel; Poverty Bay ryegrass, 6s 6d ; cocksfoot, 7s 6d to 8s 6d per bushel. Horses—A steady demand has prevailed and the number brought forward has been up to the average. Little or no alteration in value has occurred. The Durham yards were well filled on Friday, and there was steady competition throughout the sale. Hacks from £4 10s to £l3; light harness, £6 to £l2 12s ; medium draught, £8 to £l6 2s 6d ; heavy draught, from £ll 5s to £25 ; weeds, £1 to £2. Cattle—Average numbers have been brought forward, and found purchasers at little or no alteration in value. The Newmarket yards were moderately full on Tuesday, and there was a large muster at Papakura on Wednesday, but there was no noteworthy change in prices. Ox beef sold at from 18s to 20s per 1001 b ; cow, 16s to 17s per 1001 b; dairy cows, £3 17s 6d to £7 17s 6d ; yearlings, £1 5s to £2 10s ; calves, 12s to £1 3s; dry cows, £1 10s to £8; grown steers, £4 to £5 ss. Sheep were yarded in large numbers, and prices were in favor of the purchaser. Wethers sold at from 10s to 11s 6d ; ewes, 5s 9d to 10s; lambs, 5s 9d to 9s. Pigs—Few yarded. Porkers, sold at from 21s to 25s ; weaners, 3s 9d to 7s 6d,
