Waimate Road Board.

The ordinary meeting of the Board was held 0:1 Fiiday, there being present Messrs MclOown (chairman), Wat' on, McCarthy, Oxhead, Mndford, Henson, and Sheat. LOANS. The Secretary to the treasury wired that £IOO vas now available for Mangawhera read, and £IOOO for fori L'oad. The clerk said that he had applied for £4OO on account of each road, and it is now available. Settlers on the Upper Auroa Road asked the Board to take steps to raise a loan of £7OO in order to metal and bridge the road between the Eltham and Opunake - Stratford Roads.— Agreed to. [Henson- Watson]. KIFI KOAD. W. J. Warren waited on the Board with a request that something should be done to improve the road. He said he had to get timber up to his land, and at present could not get a dray up. It was pointed out by the foreman that the improvements to be made out of loan would give the necessary relief. UPPER MANGAWHEEO ROAD. Mr Shury renewed his application for payment of an unauthorised account out of Mr Falkner's moneys paid to the Land Board. THE FOREMAN OF WORKS. The Foreman applied for a small addition to his wages, which is only 7s a day. The matter was considered in committee, and it was resolved that the salary be increased from £l2O to £l5O a year from Ist January last. Mr McCarthy voted against it on tbe_ ground that the Board could n«,t afford to increase any salary and that there would be a new Board in existence shortly. RATING NATIVE LANDS. The Chairman said he would like this Board to join with the Hawera County Council and the New Plymouth Harbor Board if these were agreeable in having a test case tried in the District Court in order to settle the question of what lands are rateable under the last Rating Act.— Agreed to. FAIR RENT BILL. To lie on the table. TENDERS. 747—Pihama: Titahi Street, formation ;no tenders were opened. Mr Denne. attended in support of the proposal to.improve Titahi Road. Resolved, That the money from Pihama township be expended on the Patiki Road within the township. 748—Upper Auroa Road, culverts and ford: Batt, £33 10s; Burgess (accepted), culverts and fillings £9, ford, 6£d per yard ; McMahon, £9 ss, no price for the ford; Harvey, £2O, ford Is per yard ; Burke and Co, informal, no deposit. 749—Upper Auroa Road, 25 chains ditching : Burke and Co, no deposit, informal; W, Burke, 25s ; Burgess, 24s 6d; Gapper and Kay (accepted by ballot), 24s 6d; Harvey, 295; Newman, 83s.
