Harbour Board Election.
A meeting of country delegates was held at Kaponga on Wednesday, when there were present;—Messrs W. H. Franklyn, Inglewood (chairman); F. Bluck, Waitara; P. F. Ralfe and E. Dingle, Stratford; Wm. Shearer and G. A. Hurley, Waimate; E. Maxwell, Parihaka; and M. J. Brennan, Opunake. It was agreed that as six candidates had been nominated that no alteration should be made in the direction of reducing the number, as had been suggested by one part of the country, it being the expressed desire from all parts that the first duty of the country members when returned would be to divide the district into six ridings, so as in future to ensure representation in proportion to the rateable value for the country as well as the town. _ v Various other matters in connection with the conduct of the election on behalf of the country candidates were then discussed, and a plan of action agreed upon. The reports of the delegates from all parts showed that keen interest was being taken in the contest throughout the district, and a successful result might be confidently expected.
