Cricket.

OPUNAKE II.;; v. STEATFOBD 11. The above mfitch was played at Opunake on Monday. The Stratford team drove over on Sunday evening by way of the Eltham Road. The weather was perfect for cricket and the pitch was in fair order. Some delay was caused in starting owing to the non-arrival of the Opunake team on the ground. This was caused by a mistake evidently of the Association, which supplied a printed list to this Club giving the date of this match as December 7th, and the Opunake team looked on • the match as abandoned until a wire was received on Saturday evening from Stratford informing the secretary that the team was leaving for Opunake. The team ohosen was rather a scratch one, but a very pleasant game eventuated. It was decided, owing to the late start, to only play one innings each. Mr H. C. Coutts captaiued the Stratford team and Mr J. Stewart captained the home team. Opunake won the toss and put the visitors in firsts Coutts and Gillespie facing the bowling of Wagstaff and Edmunds. Coutts, from whom some leather hunting was expected, was dismissed after making two by a regular trimmer from Wagstaff. A. Richmond (24) was the only one to reach double figures, the innings closing for 51. Opunake opened its innings by sending Wagstaffand Edmunds to face the bowling of Gillespie and A s . Richmond. Edmunds (18) was the only one on the Opunake side to reach double figures, the innings closing for 51, making the match a draw.
