Manaia Oddfellows' Sports.
(Our Own- Correspondent;)
Splendid weather attended the sport? held in the Domain on the 9th No* vember. At 11 a.tn. the Manaia Brass Band stepped out with an inspiriting march from the Octagon, followed by a short procession of Oddfellows from the Loyal Manaia Lodge, in their regalia, behind whom trailed some 15 bicycles in single file. The procession proceeded through the town to the Domain, where, for the rest of the day, all seemed to enjoy themselves. Notwithstanding the growing aversion to mere running the sports this year were a decided success.' The bicycle events, of course, were expected to revive the flagging interest. Unfortunately, however, Proffit, the winner of both events, had rather too much of a start; this, however, =cou!d not possibly be helped. Until' we have a longer experience of riders we cannot form a good estimate of their powers; probably in a year or two’s time this trouble will vanish. There was plenty of plucky riding, and those who did not win are to be complimented on their gameness. The following are the results of the different events T Maiden, 150 Yards.—Coffey, 1; Allison, 2. 440 Yards Handicap.— Bigbam, 1; Fohrman, 2; Goodissou, 8. Time, 63 sec.
