A statement lias been prepared showing the prices during the 11 years from 1883 to 1893 inclusive, of the principal articles of export from New Zealand. Wool has fallen from 10gd in 1883 to BJd in 1893 ; gold, from £4<o £3 19s lid ; grain, from 3s Kid to ‘2s 4£d ; flax, from £lB 5s to £l7 8s 7d ; butter, from lOd to 9§d; cheese, from s|d to 4jjd; frozen meat, from 2Qs Ud to 245. Kauri ‘gum has risen from £dl 13s in 1883 to £6l 8s |3d in 1893, A magnetic healer who has been prao. tising in Wellington for some and has met with a certain amount of success, has been predicting tremendous earthquakes in two or three months. The man has gained so much ascendancy over people’s minds that several families have sold off and. left the city, and others are preparing to follow suit, to the number, it is said,-of forty.
