SALVATION ARMY
HOME LEAGUE AFTERNOON There were forty women present at a very pleasant function held in tile S.A. Hall in connection with the closing of the Home League afternoons for the year. The had was nicely decorated with pink and mauve flowers and pot plants.
Small tables were placed aimin', idle hall where groups of Judies were entertained to aiternoou tea. The guest speaker was Mrs. N. Clark whose racy travelogue of the countries she has visited was brim full of interest.
A display of article gathered from different countries was on view and as Mrs. Clark mentioned placed in other lands, she was able to show some artiem repiesenting the place or country mentioned. Those present really travelled on a magic carpet through Holland and France and also other places and at the close of her taik she was thanked by Mrs, Major Jones who asked the speaker to accept a small gift from the ladies present,. A competition arranged by Mrs. C'orney was won by Mrs. Wilkinson who was presented with the winner’s gift. Two solos were sung during the afternoon by Mrs. Chus. Parkinson and Mrs. Major Jones. . A beautifully iced cake was made and donated by Home Leaguer Mrs. Schdroski and each guest present received a portion of the H L. Christmas cake. Several apologies for absence were received including one from Mrs. Clements- who had another engagement. Special thanks arc tendered to Mrs. C'orney (secretary) who had worked so hard for the success of the annual sale of work. Thanks are also due to many others for their work during the past 12 months, including: Mesdames W. Young, R. Meade, Schdroski, Catton, Dain, Connelly, Emmett, Black, G. Parinson, Collings, Rogers, Sherwood, Whitley, Collins, P. Brown, Knight, E. Parkinson.
A display of articles made by the Plcme League women was on view showing visitors what had been done by members. This work had just returned from Auckland, it having been in the Home League Arts and Crafts Exhibition.'
Mrs. Thompson voiced words of thanks on behalf of visitors present. A successful year of H.L. activities had been brought to a close and to one and all a big “thank you” was due. Sale of Work A succesful sale of work was held in the S.A. hall this week (Thursday) when frocks, aprons, fancywork were purchased. This helped solve a Christmas problem.
