‘‘Way Down in Tennessee”

A recent issue of the Evening Telegram, Toronto, printed the following message from Memphis, T'cntic'sseeJudge William .Bacon has ruled that it’s okay for ladies to sun themselves in their backyard in abbreviated shorts and halter and that neighbours who want to make anything of it are apt to get in trouble themselves. A 58-year-old woman called police to complain about four young ladies next door sun-bathing in “indecent” attire. A squad car officer, told to look out for “naked” women getting too much exposure investigated and found the ladies in brief ■but accepted sports garments. Judge Bacon took the complaining neighbour sternly to task. He placed her on a 50-dollar peace for six months and warned her to leave the sun-bathers alone unless she wanted to go to gaol herself.
