Sale At Pound. The sale of animals at the County Pound which was advertised to take place on December 2nd, has been postponed for a week and will now be held on December Oth. Shipping. The m.v. Otiinai arrived at Opotiki at 5 a.m. yesterday via Taurunga with general cargo. She is loading with wool and butter and will leave to-morrow morning direct for Auckland. Calf Championships. Next Thursday the annual calf clubs’ championships will be decided at the Opotiki school grounds. These annual competitions are held by the Opotiki Calf Club Association and attract great interest not only amongst the children but fanners from all over the district. Judging will commence at 11 a.m. 24th. Battalion Reunion. The 24th. Battalion Reunion will be held in Hamilton on Saturday, 6th. December. If any Returned Soldiers are interested in making the trip, they are requested to communicate with Mr. Bill Newell before Tuesday 2nd. December. Contract Vehicle Available. At last night’s meeting of the Opotiki Chamber of Commerce. Mr. J. R. Dunlop, manager of the Opotiki office of N.Z.R. Road Services replied to representations by the Chamber that a larger contract vehicle be made available in O.potiki for contract trips. Mr. Dunlop stated that repairs on the large vehicle which hed met with an accident some time ago were now completed and would be available for contract trips. The bus was capable of holding 20 adults or 40 children.
Ho/£.3 Meat Preferred. “The meat—our one shilling’s worth per week—has been so bad the past two weeks that we have given it to our dog and eaten his horse meat,”, states a London resident in a letter written to a New Zealand friend in appreciation of a food parcel. “Actually that is not so bad as it sounds, as horse meat is very clean and is quite tender. As a matter of fact many restaurants are selling it as beef, and very few can tell the difference.”
Learning to Swear. “My children seem to have no difficulty in learning to swear, and 1 wonder if- you can suggest any method of curing this habit,” said a woman member of the audience at an informal Christchurch discussion held by the New Education Fellowship, “A Brains Trust” of prominent educational authorities in. Christchurch answered questions. “I have three children,” continued tire woman, .“aged respectively eight, six and four. The little girl of four swears more than the others.” Miss M. Saunders, who answered the question, asked if the children heard swearing often and had adopted the fashion out of habit. “Oh,” said the woman, ‘I swear myself. But not in the presence of the children,” she hurriedly added.
